Five patterns that sabotage your success

Based on working with hundreds of clients, I can see five patterns that get in the way of your success.  

1.     You judge yourself.  

Perhaps, you have an old story that you’re not good enough. You may judge yourself for not being more accomplished, you get angry and frustrated with not taking action, you procrastinate and feel under pressure. It’s not like you don’t know what to do, but the thought of doing it brings up fears that stop you in your tracks: fear of failure, fear of making a fool of yourself, fear of rejection. Underneath all these fears there’s one core issue: fear of judgement.  

Until you heal your fear of judgment, it’s likely to get in the way of everything you do.

2.     You believe you have to earn love/ money/ success with hard work. 

Don’t get me wrong. Good work ethics is great. What may become a problem is your addiction to struggle and suffering. Sometimes struggle and efforting can become so familiar that even though you don’t like it, you overcomplicate things and make them more difficult that they need to be.

3.     You neglect your own needs 

You push yourself too hard until you burn out. You over-give at home and at work and have been running on empty for decades. This is how it may play out in your career. Let’s say you want more paying clients, but you’re already feeling depleted. Although consciously you’re calling in more clients, subconsciously, you’re repelling them out of fear of burn out.

4.     Fear of visibility 

Any successful undertaking requires you to be more visible, but if you don’t feel good about your body image, because you think you’re too fat/ too old/ too whatever, then you’re not going to put yourself out there. You’ll shy away from any opportunities for more publicity.

5.     You underestimate the power of your presence  

Your presence is the magic ingredient that helps you to stand out in the crowd. If you’re able to stay present with your clients/ children/ loved ones, you can meet and deal with any challenge, however insurmountable. Instead, you get identified with the younger wounded parts of your psyche that flap, panic and hold you back. To embrace more success and to expand your capacity to hold more, you need to learn to be more present.
