The Most Difficult Podcast Interview Question
I had a few podcast interviews in the past couple of weeks, which I thoroughly enjoyed (if you have a podcast and would like me to come as a guest, please drop me a line).
What I’ve noticed is that I can pretty much speak about any issue, but there’s one question that inevitably throws me off.
‘Tell us who you are.’
It’s not like I don’t know the answer. My sense of self is so much clearer these days.
It’s just I have a fundamental difficulty with that question.
Who I am is not what I do for work.
Who I am is not the facts of my life.
Who I am is not the roles I perform in life.
It’s so much more than all those things combined.
But it’s hardly appropriate to answer that question with ‘I’m a mystery’ or something to that effect. :)
So I keep the answer short and let the listeners discern for themselves from the content of the conversation.
How would you answer the question: Who Are You?
If you have any split or confusion around this question, or feel like you don’t know who you are anymore after fill in the gap [marriage/ kids/ job], then I’m running a 3-hour masterclass on 20 February at 18:00-21:00 UK time. Join me live. www.gularavincent.co.uk/i-am
P.S. Here’s one of my recent podcast interviews, if you’d like to tune in. I spoke to Natasha on The Balm to the Soul podcast, where we covered a lot of ground – from my book to what I do and why I do it. Relationship and Trauma Healing Coach Dr Gulara Vincent PhD (buzzsprout.com)
P.P.S. Here’s one of my favourite quotes: “I am not this hair, I am not this skin, I am the soul that lives within” ― Rumi
P.P.P.S. And one of my favourite poems:
Not
by Erin Hanson
You are not your age, nor the size of clothes you wear,
You are not a weight, or the color of your hair.
You are not your name, or the dimples in your cheeks.
You are all the books you read, and all the words you speak.
You are your croaky morning voice, and the smiles you try to hide.
You’re the sweetness in your laughter, and every tear you’ve cried.
You’re the songs you sing so loudly when you know you’re all alone.
You’re the places that you’ve been to, and the one that you call home.
You’re the things that you believe in, and the people whom you love.
You’re the photos in your bedroom, and the future you dream of.
You’re made of so much beauty, but it seems that you forgot
When you decided that you were defined by all the things you’re not.
If you want to get more clarity around your identity, heal the imposter syndrome and let go of hiding and confusion, join my live healing event ‘Who Am I?’ is on 20 February at 18:00-21:00 UK time www.gularavincent.co.uk/i-am
