To Be Human
Spring is in the air and I notice an impulse to slow down and smell the roses. Besides, March is my birthday month. It's time to take stock of life.
I'm taking a week off for a family reunion in Istanbul and then will put my attention on getting ready for my March retreat. I'm also making space for friends and creative pursuits, along with my work, and excited about more life-work balance.
So today, I want to share something different with you. Last March I was on a retreat to stimulate my creativity and wrote a poem in response to a prompt 'What it is to be a human?'. It was something that came through me in that moment. It might be different today but it's a question worth contemplating.
To Be Human
Is to F*** up, to be messy,
To be complex and complicated
in the midst of simplicity.
To be stranded between the past and the future
being pulled back
and leaning too far forward.
To be human is to find the balance
between the polarities
embrace and embody the opposites.
To be human is divine
It's to live in this animal body
that can get so much pleasure
from food, sex and movement,
the body that can break
causing so much pain and distress.
To be human is to love
Love fiercely and feel deeply
To be human is to think
A lot, sometimes pointlessly
and sometimes creatively
To be human is to be cruel
When there's so much space
For love.
To be human is to be both... and
To feel all of it
Nothing is off the list.
P.S. I'll be back in action from early April with a new 5-week programme 'I Am Enough'. You can have a sneak preview here: www.gularavincent.co.uk/i-am-enough
With all my love
