This Is Where I Come From
I was clearing a cupboard the other day and came across a notebook I used in early 2020, just before the first lockdown. There’s a poem that took me by surprise.
I don’t know what I would write today, but I think it’d be a different story, even though the facts would remain the same.
This is where I come from
I come from pain, tears and suffering
I come from the land of lost
I come from ancient traditions and culture
Where food says it all.
I come from strict upbringing
That made me perfect
On the outside
I come from denial and abandonment
Of others, but first myself.
I come from folk songs and Russian music
Blasting from a black and white TV
I come from strict men in my family
Who wouldn’t smile watching comedies,
I come from the joy of surrender
That took me by surprise
I come from a mother young and beautiful
‘Is this your sister?’ they still ask.
I come from my thoughts and desires to fix things
To match the ideal I was brought up on
I come from a union that didn’t last...
P.S. Want to read my memoir about my childhood? As you can tell, it's not necessarily an easy start to life but I hope it inspires you. If I can overcome those challenges, so can you! Here's the link: www.gularavincent.co.uk/book
Oh, and I have my monthly masterclass on 'Tuning Into Trust' on 8 September 6-9pm UK time: www.gularavincent.co.uk/trust
