Why Children Take On Their Parents’ Trauma?
From working with hundreds of clients over the last few years, I can see three key reasons why children take on their parents’ trauma
Womb Imprints
Let’s say your mother had sexual trauma. Unless she dealt with the shock of the event, she may not have managed to release the trauma from her reproductive organs. There may be some other trauma in the womb, for example, any sadness or guilt from abortions or miscarriages.
You’re practically made from your mother’s cells. Whatever trauma she held in her body is likely to affect the baby. This is deeply unconscious – you don’t even know that you’re taking on the energy held in the womb, and unless it is consciously released it plays out in your life too.
Early bonding
In the first two years of your life, energetically you’re one with your mother. Whatever she feels, you feel too. If your mother had some trauma, it’s likely to have an impact on her emotional state. For example, she may have postnatal depression, feel unsafe in her body, experience guilt at leaving you at nursery to return to work, feel overwhelmed by life’s demands on her energy and time...
The child is likely to imprint mother’s shut down and insecurities. You’ll feel your mother’s distress and try to alleviate her pain by compromising your own needs, for example, not crying when you need her or shutting down your anger. You may even absorb some of her energy in order to lighten up her burdens, except it ends up weighing you down too.
Something in the field.
Have you ever walked into a room where there was a heated argument? You may not have witnessed the argument, but you can feel something in the air, like a charge…
Let’s say both of your parents had experiences of childhood trauma. They didn’t have the support that they needed, so most of that pain is suppressed and hidden.
The child gets born into this environment and feels that’s something is not right. If you were a sensitive child, you’re likely to take on this stuck energy in the family field in the attempt to resolve it.
But how can you resolve this unfinished business without fully experiencing it yourself? You’re likely to re-create your parents’ trauma so that you can find a resolution. This is how the trauma gets passed on from one generation to another.
And this is why dealing with your own trauma is not enough. You need to release your ancestral trauma at the DNA level and that’s exactly what I offer in my programmes.
