15 New Things I’ve Done in 2021
I like reflecting on the year to send it off in style.
Here’s a random list of 15 things I’ve done in 2021 for the first time.
1. I started the year in style. On 1st of January, I went away with my partner in a van in subzero temperatures and skinny-dipped in the ocean on 2 January.
2. I bought myself a violin, the conservatoire level, and wow, the sound is incredible and somehow my fingers still remember what to do (even though I have hardly played the instrument for over 3 decades).
3. I homeschooled my two young children. It nearly killed me (well, nearly)….
4. I published my memoir which became an international bestseller (in the UK, the USA and Australia). Here’s the link if you haven’t seen it yet. https://bit.ly/HammerSickleBroom
5. I helped my partner’s friends to run a beer festival. I’ve never worked behind a bar before, so having 8 hour shifts was hard work and I have so much respect and reverence to all the people who serve drinks all day long. It’s hard work.
6. I ran my first in-person retreat. It was incredible, so many shifts, I was blown away by the transformation that took place in the room. We used intention constellations to heal decades and generations of trauma, chilled in hot tub, admired stunning views, ate abundance of nurturing food, went for a long walk, which ended up being longer than intended… By the end of the weekend, everyone was oozing love.
7. I had a spa day. Like a proper proper spa day, not just a few hours of sweating in a sauna. It was lush.
8. I ran a 6-month healing programme. We met weekly and created so much transformation. My heart felt wide open listening to people’s feedback on our final call in mid-December. So I decided to offer another 6 month programme. We’re starting on 17 January. Are you called to join us?
9. I went to Buddhafield festival in the summer, and wow, that was quite an experience. Once I got over the fact that some people chose to be nude, I could relax and attend dancing, singing and healing workshops. It’s a different world out there….
10. My partner disassembled a hot tub in his friend’s house and reassembled it in his garden in the summer. Needless to say, I looked like a prune every time I visited. I also sunbathed on the lawn (well, on a mattress that my partner normally dragged out together with pillows and a blanket, since this is English weather we’re talking about). Still, I was sun-kissed this summer. Such a treat!
11. I went to Cornwall in the summer. I loved the beaches, especially quiet ones. My partner’s sister walked the coastline from Devon to Cornwall so we met her at the end of the journey to celebrate her achievement.
12. I did a live autobiographical performance about sexual trauma in front of 30 people. It was the bravest thing I’ve done in a long while. My partner was in the audience, supporting and cheering me on.
13. I got divorced. We’ve been separated for a while, but now it’s over legally too. We’re still allies, talk daily and co-parent our two children. The divorce helped us let go in all the little ways we hang on energetically.
14. I lost a lot of weight, without trying hard. I released some stuck energy when I was on a retreat in September, and the rest happened organically without me efforting. I’ve been off sugar, wheat and carbs for about 2 months. I love my new lifestyle. I don’t know how much I weighed before, during or after. For me, it’s not about a number, it’s about a feeling. I feel lighter, physically and emotionally.
15. This has been my first year in full-time self-employment, and I must admit, I have not looked back. I loved working in academia, but I love my freedom more.
That's a wrap. I release 2021 with deep gratitude. It's been the best year of my life so far. Let's see what 2022 has in store.
P.S. I'm running a free coaching series where I'm going to zoom into your individual challenges on 5-9 January at 6pm UK time daily. You can sign up here. https://www.gularavincent.co.uk/communication-cure
