Stuck in Your Sex Life? The cause may not be what you think…
I was working with a client recently who has been in a relationship with her partner for 10 years. Their sex life is practically non-existent. If he attempts to be close with her, she shuts down. If she attempts to show affection, he says he still feels hurt from her past rejections.
They felt stuck.
We started with the feeling of shut down that she felt when he showed her affection. Our first port of call was her parents’ relationship: her mother felt shut down and her father was frustrated. Her mother hated feeling touched; her father wanted to force himself on her because that was the only way to get a reaction from her; her mother’s heart was closed off and her father felt angry and abandoned.
As soon as we started healing she said:
‘Oh my god. This is pretty much my marriage.’
As a child, you absorb everything around you like a sponge. If unexamined, those unconscious programmes run your life.
Without realising it she was holding that baggage for her mother.
The good news is it’s possible to re-write the script. This client was able to release what was not hers. She felt so much lighter and clearer around intimacy. And as she changed, his attitude started changing too. The way he acts towards her and shows affection is enabling more connection and intimacy in their relationship.
